Standing rules and notes

A standing rule sells part of a stock if it falls too far. Notes tell your agent what you care about when it times a move.

Standing rules

A standing rule is a safety line you draw in advance. It reads as one sentence:

If Nvidia falls more than 5% below its reference, sell 50% of it.

  • The fall can be 1% to 20%. The sale can be 10% to all of the holding.
  • You can have up to 10 rules.
  • The reference is the same reference price every decision is measured against (how it decides). The fall is measured on the pool's 30-minute average price, so one odd trade cannot set it off.

Add them in step 3 of creating your agent, under More options, or later under Edit what you told it → Rules, or by asking in the chat. Press Add a rule or Remove this rule.

In dollars

You hold $200 of Nvidia and have the rule above. On Sunday Nvidia's pool drifts 6% below Friday's reference. Your rule fires: your agent wants to sell half, about $94. If your per-trade limit is $10, it sells $10 now, and the rule is still there on the next check.

What a rule does and does not do

  • A rule raises a sale before any drift trade, and it takes the place of any drift trade in the same stock.
  • The sale is protective, so two checks that would normally stop a trade are relaxed: the gap to the reference and the cost of trading. That is the point of a rule: it acts when the price has moved.
  • It still goes through your limits, the contract's 8% price floor and your mode. In Practice it only writes down what it would have sold; in Ask me first it asks you.
  • The timing question is still asked, and the record names the rule that raised the sale.

Notes for your agent

Notes for your agent is free text, up to 600 characters when you create it. For example: “I care more about keeping Nvidia than about the exact weights.” Your agent reads your notes when it decides the timing of a move. Notes never change what you hold, the size of a trade or a limit.

Your notes stay private. The public record only shows that a note applied, never its text.
